What’s better than a warm Southern California afternoon, a table full of smiling faces, and the smell of fresh pastrami sandwiches in the air? Not much — especially when it’s all for a good cause!

The Universal Metro team recently joined the City of Santa Fe Springs Public Works Maintenance Division for their much-loved Pastrami Luncheon, a Santa Fe Springs community event supporting the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. And yes, there were sandwiches — lots of them — but even more importantly, there was heart.

Coming Together for a Cause

Held under the sunny Santa Fe Springs sky, the Pastrami Luncheon wasn’t just a lunch — it was a celebration of teamwork, community, and compassion.

Every plate, every conversation, and every donation went toward funding cancer research and patient care through the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life program. The City’s Public Works Maintenance Division put together a fantastic event, blending good food with a great mission — and Universal Metro was proud to be right there in the mix.

As a company deeply rooted in Southern California, we believe that community engagement isn’t just a nice extra — it’s part of who we are. Our work as commercial flooring contractors may keep us on the ground (literally), but our hearts are always invested in the people who walk on those floors — and in giving back whenever we can.

The photo says it all: teammates gathered around a long red-and-white checkered table, laughing, waving, and yes — happily digging into those delicious pastrami sandwiches. For a few hours, our team traded hard hats and measuring tapes for chips, sodas, and stories.

And that’s what makes a Santa Fe Springs community event so special — it brings people together. Public Works employees, business partners, and neighbors all sharing a moment of gratitude and goodwill. It’s a reminder that behind every great city are great people, showing up for one another.

Learning, Laughing & Leveling Up: Universal Metro at Big D’s Customer Appreciation Event

Some days remind us exactly why we love what we do — and Big D’s Customer Appreciation Event was one of those days! Our Universal Metro team spent a sun-soaked afternoon surrounded by great people, good food, and the kind of hands-on learning that makes this industry so rewarding.

A Day of Appreciation and Action

Big D Supply knows how to say “thank you” in style. Their customer appreciation event brought together flooring professionals, vendors, and partners for a day filled with energy, laughter, and education.

We kicked things off catching up with familiar faces — partners, suppliers, and friends we’ve worked alongside for years. The atmosphere was buzzing with positivity, music in the background, and plenty of smiles all around.

But this wasn’t your average appreciation lunch. Big D turned the parking lot into a mini-trade show, with tents, tool demos, and stations where guests could learn by doing.

Hands-On Training Meets Team Bonding

Our crew loved rolling up their sleeves and getting involved in the hands-on flooring tool demonstrations. From testing precision tile cutters to trying out the latest in adhesive technology, it was part training, part friendly competition — and entirely fun.

One of the biggest hits of the day? The ride-on floor scraper demonstration — the bright green Wolff Independence Ride-on floor stripper machine that had everyone taking turns for a spin (and a few laughs). Watching team members test real-world equipment in action added a whole new dimension to the customer appreciation event, showing just how connected craftsmanship and community can be.

The experience gave our team not just product insight, but also a deeper appreciation for the technology that keeps our industry moving forward.

Good Food and Great Company

Of course, no customer appreciation event is complete without amazing food — and Big D delivered. From hot-off-the-grill bites to sweet treats, the lunch tables became a hub for laughter, shared stories, and a few well-deserved breaks from the workweek hustle.

Between demos and delicious meals, there was plenty of time for camaraderie. Our Universal Metro team connected with fellow flooring professionals and even made a few new friends — proof that great things happen when the industry comes together.

Appreciation Goes Both Ways

Events like these remind us that appreciation isn’t just something you receive — it’s something you give back. We’re grateful to Big D Supply for hosting such an incredible customer appreciation event, but we’re equally thankful to be part of an industry built on collaboration, learning, and mutual respect.

From the fun outdoor setup to the training tables and the conversations that sparked new ideas, it was a day to remember — one that celebrated not just customers, but the whole community of people who make this trade so special.
